25th April, New Delhi: At present, more than 3000 Indians are stranded in Sudan. India on Monday launched 'Operation Kaveri' to evacuate its citizens stranded in conflict-hit Sudan. 500 Indians have reached the port of Sudan and preparations are being made to bring the rest to a safe place so that they can be evacuated to India as soon as possible. The Ministry of External Affairs has informed that the first group of Indians stranded in Sudan have been evacuated under the Operation, which includes 278 people.

Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted, "First batch of stranded Indians leave Sudan under #OperationKaveri. INS Sumedha with 278 people onboard departs Port Sudan for Jeddah."

Children are among a group of Indians evacuated from Sudan, where fierce fighting is going on between the army and a paramilitary group. As part of this evacuation process, two Indian Air Force C-130J have also been positioned in Jeddah. Based on PM Modi’s call to prepare a contingency plan for the evacuation of Indians from Sudan, all these preparations have been made.
