Human Trafficking Suspected Again in Siliguri
Just days ago, 56 young women were rescued from New Jalpaiguri Station, leading to the arrest of four female traffickers. Now, another alarming incident has surfaced in Siliguri.
34 Young Women Rescued from Siliguri Bus Terminus
In a major operation conducted by plainclothes officers from the Pradhan Nagar Police Station under Siliguri Metropolitan Police, 34 young women were rescued near the Junction Bus Stand. Three individuals—one man and two women—have been detained on suspicion of human trafficking.
According to police sources, the women were allegedly being taken out of the city under the pretense of employment. The police intercepted the group before they could be transported. Initial investigations suggest that the girls were being trafficked, but timely intervention led to their rescue.
Investigation Underway
The detained suspects are currently being interrogated, and police are also collecting information from the rescued girls. Preliminary findings indicate that the group was being transported from Ranchi to Tamil Nadu.
Efforts are being made to contact the families of the 34 young women. The police are also investigating the exact destination and purpose behind the movement.
Deputy Commissioner of Siliguri, Bishwajit Thakur, stated:
“We have rescued 34 young women and detained three individuals for questioning. Initial investigation suggests they were being taken for wrongful purposes. The investigation is ongoing. More details will emerge once we speak with their families.”
