Nag Panchami 2025: Significance, Rituals, and Auspicious Timings

In Hinduism, Nag Panchami holds deep spiritual significance. On this day, devotees worship serpent deities and Lord Shiva with great reverence. Known as Nag Panchami, this festival is dedicated to the serpent goddess Manasa Devi, who is especially venerated in regions like Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam, and parts of Odisha. The worship of Manasa Devi is observed on different days during the months of Ashadha, Shravan, and Bhadrapada (June to September). In 2025, the most important date for Manasa Puja is July 29. Manasa Devi is believed to be the daughter of Lord Shiva and is revered as the goddess of snakes.

It is believed that proper worship on Nag Panchami brings peace, prosperity, and relief from ongoing troubles in life. According to the Hindu calendar, the Panchami Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Shravan will begin at 12:40 PM on July 28 and end at 3:15 PM on July 29. Since the Tithi rises on July 29, the festival will be celebrated on that day.

This year, Nag Panchami coincides with several auspicious yogas, including Shiva Yoga, Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga, and Ravi Yoga. These combinations are considered highly beneficial in Hindu astrology and are believed to enhance the spiritual potency of the day.

On Nag Panchami, devotees wake up early, bathe, and place an image of Manasa Devi in a sacred space within the home. Offerings of rice, milk, bananas, and sacred grass (durva) are made to the serpent deity. Devotees also perform abhishek (ritual bathing) of snake idols with raw milk and chant the mantra “Om Namah Nagaya” with devotion.

Additionally, July 29 marks the third Mangala Gauri Vrat of the Shravan month. Astrologers believe that the combination of these yogas and observances on the same day is extremely rare and spiritually powerful.

The most auspicious time for worship on Nag Panchami this year is from 5:41 AM to 8:23 AM, offering a window of 2 hours and 43 minutes for performing the rituals. Devotees are encouraged to worship the serpent gods with sincerity and also perform abhishek of the Shiva Linga. It is also considered virtuous to donate to the poor on this day.

Nag Panchami is not just a day of ritual—it is a celebration of faith, protection, and divine blessings. Worshipping Manasa Devi and the serpent gods on this sacred day is believed to remove obstacles and usher in happiness and prosperity.
