Keep Your SIM Active for 365 Days Without Data: Airtel, Jio & Vi Launch Budget Plans

TRAI’s Directive for Affordable Plans

Earlier this year, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) directed major telecom operators—Airtel, Jio, BSNL, and Vodafone Idea (Vi)—to introduce budget-friendly, data-free prepaid plans. These plans are designed to help users keep their mobile numbers active without paying for unused data, especially benefiting feature phone users, senior citizens, and those who rely on basic calling.

Data-Free Prepaid Plans Comparison

Operator Plan Price Validity Benefits
Airtel ₹469 84 days Unlimited calls, 900 SMS
Airtel ₹1849 365 days Unlimited calls, 3600 SMS
Jio ₹448 84 days Unlimited calls, 1000 SMS
Jio ₹1748 336 days Unlimited calls, 3600 SMS
Vi ₹470 84 days Unlimited calls, SMS
Vi ₹1849 365 days Unlimited calls, SMS

These plans do not include internet data, making them ideal for users who only need voice and SMS services.

Subscriber Trends: TRAI June 2025 Report

  • Total telecom subscribers in India reached 121.83 crore, up from 120.70 crore in May—a 0.93% monthly growth.
  • Broadband users rose to 97.97 crore, with Jio leading at 49.7 crore, followed by Airtel at 30.4 crore, and Vi at 12.7 crore.
  • Reliance Jio added 4.54 lakh subscribers in June.
  • Bharti Airtel added 50,036 subscribers.
  • Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost 52,430 subscribers.
  • BSNL also saw a decline in its user base.

Private telecom providers now hold 92.2% of the wireless market share, while BSNL and MTNL together account for just 7.8%.

Why These Plans Matter

These long-validity, data-free plans are a game-changer for:

  • Users who only need OTP verification or basic calling
  • People in rural areas with limited internet access
  • Those maintaining a secondary SIM for emergencies
