New Delhi 24 August 2025 — The Income Tax Department of India has introduced a major digital upgrade to the Permanent Account Number (PAN) system. Branded as PAN Card 2.0, the new version features a QR code-enabled e-PAN that enhances verification speed and fraud prevention. Applicants can receive the e-PAN free of cost via email. A nominal fee applies only if a physical copy is requested.
Who Is Eligible for PAN 2.0?
• Existing PAN holders can directly upgrade to the new version
• New applicants must provide valid proof of identity and address
• Indian citizens, NRIs, foreign nationals, companies, trusts, and HUFs are all eligible to apply

• Proof of Identity (PoI): Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID, Driving License
• Proof of Address (PoA): Electricity Bill, Bank Statement, Rent Agreement
