Maithili Thakur Joins BJP Ahead of Bihar Elections 2025, Sparks Political Buzz in Madhubani and Darbhanga
Popular folk singer Maithili Thakur has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. The announcement was made in Patna in the presence of Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal, where Maithili formally entered the saffron camp. Her induction is being seen as a strategic move by the party to connect with cultural and youth voters across the state.
Speaking at the event, Maithili Thakur expressed her support for the development initiatives carried out under the NDA government in Bihar. She clarified that her role would not be limited to contesting elections, but she would contribute in whatever capacity the party assigns to her. While her candidacy has not yet been finalized, speculation is rife that she may contest from either Alinagar in Darbhanga or Benipatti in Madhubani—both regions closely tied to her family roots. Her paternal grandmother’s village is in Madhubani, while her maternal grandmother hails from Darbhanga, and she emphasized that people from both places have showered her with equal affection.
The BJP has already released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, featuring 71 names, including 9 women. The elections will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with vote counting scheduled for November 14. Both the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan have launched aggressive campaigns across the state, and Maithili’s entry into politics is expected to add cultural resonance to BJP’s outreach strategy.
