India secured a dominant nine-wicket victory over Australia in the third and final ODI of the series held at the Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25, 2025. Despite losing the series 2-1, the win provided a morale boost for the visitors, thanks to a vintage batting display from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Australia, having won the toss, opted to bat first but failed to capitalize on the decision. The innings began with promise as Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh laid a solid foundation, scoring 29 and 41 respectively. However, the middle order faltered under pressure. Matt Renshaw stood out with a composed 56 off 58 balls, while Matthew Short added 30. The rest of the lineup struggled to build partnerships, and Australia was bowled out for 236 in 46.4 overs. Harshit Rana led India’s bowling attack with figures of 4/39, supported by Washington Sundar who took two wickets.

In response, India’s chase was anchored by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both returning to form after a long break from international cricket. Rohit scored an unbeaten 121 off 125 balls, registering his 33rd ODI century, while Kohli contributed 74 not out off 81 balls, marking his 75th ODI half-century. Their unbroken 168-run partnership ensured a smooth chase, with India reaching the target in just 38.3 overs.

Shubman Gill, captaining India for the first time in ODIs, scored 24 before falling early. Despite the series loss, India’s performance in the final match highlighted the depth and experience of the squad, with Rohit Sharma earning the Player of the Match award for his stellar innings.
