Patna, November 20 — A new chapter in Bihar’s political history is being written today as Nitish Kumar prepares to take oath as Chief Minister for a record 10th time. Following the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) sweeping victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, the stage is set for the formation of a new government.

On Wednesday, a crucial meeting of newly elected NDA legislators was held, where Nitish Kumar was unanimously elected as the leader of the alliance. Senior leaders from all NDA constituents, including BJP and JD(U), were present and congratulated Kumar on his selection.

Prior to this, both BJP and JD(U) held separate legislative meetings. BJP named Samrat Chaudhary as its legislative leader and Vijay Kumar Sinha as deputy leader, while JD(U) reaffirmed Nitish Kumar as its party leader. These developments paved the way for the oath-taking ceremony.

The grand swearing-in event is scheduled for 11:30 AM today at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the ceremony, arriving via helicopter. In view of the event, all schools around Gandhi Maidan will remain closed, and tight security arrangements have been put in place across the area.

After the ceremony, Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha will assume responsibilities as Deputy Chief Ministers in Nitish Kumar’s cabinet. In the recently concluded elections, the NDA secured 202 out of 243 seats, ensuring a clear majority. BJP emerged as the single largest party with 89 seats, followed by JD(U) with 85. Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) won 19 seats, Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) secured 5, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha claimed 4.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda arrived in Patna on Wednesday night to attend the ceremony. Prime Minister Modi is expected to land in Patna this morning on a special flight. Invitations have been extended to Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and senior leaders from all NDA-ruled states.

Commenting on the occasion, Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said Bihar is about to create history. He praised the electorate for endorsing Prime Minister Modi’s welfare schemes and Nitish Kumar’s governance. Responding to opposition allegations of vote tampering, Pathak criticized their tendency to question constitutional institutions only when they lose elections. He also dismissed Congress’s proposed rally in SIR, stating Rahul Gandhi lacks understanding of political processes.

With Nitish Kumar’s 10th oath ceremony, Bihar marks a significant milestone in democratic continuity and coalition governance.
