Academic Calendar 2026: Strict Rules for Discipline and Learning in West Bengal Schools
The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education has released the Academic Calendar 2026, introducing strict measures to improve the learning environment and maintain discipline in schools. These guidelines are mandatory for all government and government-aided schools across the state.
The calendar, published on 29 December, emphasizes punctuality, classroom discipline, and student focus. One of the most significant decisions is a complete ban on mobile phones for students inside school premises. Teachers too are prohibited from using mobile phones or Bluetooth devices in classrooms or laboratories. If a teacher wishes to use a mobile phone as a teaching aid, prior written permission from the headmaster is required.
The calendar enforces strict timing rules: all staff must arrive by 10:35 a.m., attend the 10:40 a.m. prayer assembly, and cannot leave before 4:30 p.m. unless on official duty.
Physical or mental punishment of students is strictly forbidden. Instead, corrective measures must be adopted to guide students. Teachers are also barred from engaging in private tuition or business activities for personal gain.
Students promoted to new classes must return their old textbooks, provided free of cost, to the school. Headmasters are responsible for ensuring these books are properly packed and sent back to the concerned department.
The Board has warned that any violation of these rules will invite strict disciplinary action against the school or individual concerned. The Academic Calendar 2026 is expected to play a crucial role in raising the quality of education and restoring discipline in West Bengal’s schools.
