LPG Price Cut Alert: New Cylinder Rates Effective August 1
New Delhi, August 1, 2025 — In a welcome move for businesses across India, oil marketing companies (OMCs) have announced a reduction in the price of 19 kg commercial LPG gas cylinders by ₹33.50. The revised rates came into effect today, August 1, 2025.
This marks the fifth consecutive month of price cuts for commercial LPG, offering relief to restaurants, hotels, and other establishments that rely heavily on gas for daily operations. However, there has been no change in the price of domestic 14.2 kg LPG cylinders, which remain steady since April 8, 2025.
Revised Prices in Major Cities
City | Previous Price (₹) | New Price (₹) | Reduction (₹) |
---|---|---|---|
Delhi | 1665.00 | 1631.50 | 33.50 |
Kolkata | 1769.00 | 1734.50 | 34.50 |
Mumbai | 1616.50 | 1582.50 | 34.00 |
Chennai | 1823.50 | 1789.00 | 34.50 |
Price Cut Trend Over Past Months
The August revision continues a downward trend in commercial LPG pricing:
- July 2025: ₹58.50 cut
- June 2025: ₹24.00 cut
- May 2025: ₹14.50 cut
- April 2025: ₹41.00 cut
In total, commercial LPG prices have dropped by over ₹130 in Delhi and similar amounts in other metros over the last five months.
No Relief for Domestic Users
Despite the commercial price cuts, domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged:
- Delhi: ₹853.00
- Kolkata: ₹879.00
- Mumbai: ₹852.50
- Chennai: ₹868.50
This stability is due to government policy and market dynamics, which often keep household LPG rates insulated from frequent fluctuations.
What Drives LPG Price Changes?
LPG prices are influenced by:
- Global crude oil trends
- Exchange rates
- Import costs and port charges
- Dealer commissions and taxes
India’s LPG pricing policy pegs natural gas rates to 10% of the crude oil basket. With crude prices hovering around $65 per barrel, OMCs expect reduced losses in FY26.
