Artificial Rain Trial Successfully Conducted in Delhi, Officials Expect Rainfall Soon
In a groundbreaking move to combat Delhi’s severe air pollution, the city administration has successfully conducted an artificial rain trial through cloud seeding technology. On Tuesday, October 28, a specially equipped aircraft released silver iodide compounds into moisture-laden clouds over regions like Burari, Mayur Vihar, and Karol Bagh.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa confirmed the trial’s success, stating that rainfall is likely within the next few hours. If weather conditions remain favorable, a second round of cloud seeding may be conducted later in the evening.
The initiative, approved under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership, is part of Delhi’s broader winter pollution control strategy. Experts believe that artificial rain can help wash away harmful particulate matter from the air, improving visibility and reducing respiratory health risks.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has remained in the “severe” category since Diwali, prompting urgent action. The cloud seeding trial marks a technological milestone for India, and if successful, could pave the way for similar interventions in other pollution-hit cities.
