Suicide Bombing Outside Islamabad Courthouse Leaves 12 Dead, Dozens Injured
A devastating suicide bombing struck outside a district courthouse in Islamabad on Tuesday afternoon, leaving at least 12 people dead and injuring between 20 to 27 others, according to Pakistan Television reports. The victims include lawyers, court staff, and pedestrians who were present near the G-11 area judicial complex at the time of the blast.
Eyewitnesses say the attacker attempted to enter the court premises but was stopped by security personnel. He then detonated explosives near a police vehicle parked outside the courthouse. The explosion caused widespread panic, shattered windows, and damaged nearby structures.
Emergency responders rushed the injured to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where several are reported to be in critical condition. The area has been cordoned off, and forensic teams are conducting investigations to determine the nature and origin of the explosives.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the site and condemned the attack, calling it a “well-planned act of terrorism.” No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing so far.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Defense Minister Khawaja Asif have both expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the victims. They have also directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.
While Islamabad has witnessed sporadic violence in the past, an attack of this scale near a key judicial facility raises serious concerns about the capital’s security infrastructure. Authorities have heightened security across other sensitive zones in the city following the blast.
