Kolkata Metro Purple Line Update: More Trains and Extended Hours from December 1
In a major move to improve passenger convenience, Kolkata Metro Rail has announced an expansion of services on the Purple Line starting Monday, December 1, 2025. The number of trains and service hours will increase on weekdays (Monday to Friday), especially benefiting commuters who use Majerhat station to connect with Eastern Railway local trains.
What’s Changing from December 1?
- Current Service: 80 trains per day (40 UP + 40 DOWN)
- New Service: 84 trains per day (42 UP + 42 DOWN)
This change is aimed at syncing metro timings with local train schedules and accommodating rising passenger demand.

Future Expansion
Metro authorities have indicated that if passenger numbers continue to rise, further service enhancements may be introduced. The new schedule has already received positive feedback from commuters in South-West Kolkata.
