Starting December 2025, the Aadhaar card is set to undergo a major transformation. According to UIDAI CEO Bhupesh Kumar, the new design will eliminate visible personal details such as name, address, date of birth, and Aadhaar number. Instead, the card will feature only a photograph and a QR code.

All personal information will be embedded within the QR code, which can be accessed only by scanning it through a newly developed Aadhaar app. This app will replace the current mAadhaar application and will be mandatory for identity verification. Citizens must register on the new app, and UIDAI will maintain a log of who scans the QR code and when.

The move is aimed at preventing offline data theft and unauthorized use of Aadhaar details. UIDAI has highlighted that many hotels, event organizers, and private agencies collect Aadhaar photocopies, which violates the Aadhaar Act. Offline storage or duplication of Aadhaar data is strictly prohibited by law.

By removing visible personal data from the card, UIDAI hopes to strengthen privacy and ensure that Aadhaar is used only through secure, authorized channels. The new design is still in the planning phase, but if all goes well, distribution of the updated Aadhaar cards will begin by the end of December.
