Siliguri/Cooch Behar, Sangbad Ekalavya: Just as the campaigning for the first phase of elections concluded at 6 PM on Tuesday, the weather in North Bengal suddenly changed its course. After weeks of scorching heat and intense political temperatures, the Kalbaishakhi (Nor'wester) storm began its rampage across vast areas of Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar as evening fell. Gusty winds, thunderstorms, and rain have practically forced citizens indoors on the evening the campaigns ended. However, amidst this relieving rain, the meteorological department has forecast severe weather for the coming days.
Weather Forecast for the Next 5 Days
According to a special bulletin dated April 21 received from the Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya (UBKV) and the Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa (Pundibari) of the India Meteorological Department, the sky over North Bengal will remain partially to mostly cloudy from April 22 to April 26.
- Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri: There is a possibility of light rain in these districts from April 22 to April 24. However, the intensity of rain is expected to increase to moderate showers on April 25 and 26.
- Uttar Dinajpur: Scattered light rain has been forecast for this district from April 22 to April 26.
Warning for Kalbaishakhi and Thunderstorms
Alongside this evening's Kalbaishakhi, a storm warning has been issued for the coming days as well. According to the bulletin, there is a strong possibility of Kalbaishakhi storms accompanied by lightning in the Cooch Behar and Alipurduar districts on April 22, and again from April 24 to 26. Meanwhile, a warning for thunderstorms has been issued for the Jalpaiguri and Uttar Dinajpur districts from April 24 to April 26.
